Laptops - the lowdown

Laptops (or laptop computer) is a small portable computer. They are designed to do the same job as a conventional desktop computer, though generally you will get less power with the laptop than the equivalent desktop computer of the same price. Ultra portable - these laptops have less than 12" screens and are usually less than 5lbs in weight. Mainstream laptop - this is the most popular laptop on the market and is aimed at the general public. The screen tends to between 14 and 15.4" and the weight is normally in the region of 5 to 7 lbs.

Desktop replacement laptops - these are meant to replace the desktop computer and as such are equipped with more powerful applications, however, the battery life is usually limited on them due to the fact that they are really intended to be used in mainly one fixed place. The screen on these is much larger, being between 17 and 20".

Due to the nature of the laptop they tend to be more susceptible to damage than their desktop siblings.
